Overnight closures on Gardiner this week for construction

A series of overnight closures on the Gardiner Expressway are taking place this week for ongoing construction on the roadway.

City officials said road crews were able to replace the median from Ellis Road to Dufferin Street ahead of schedule, and that the overnight closures are to change the arrangement of the construction site for the next projects.

As a result, the following road closures will be in effect:

  • The eastbound Gardiner from the Humber River to Carlaw Avenue will be closed from Wednesday at 9 p.m. to Thursday at 5:30 a.m. and from Thursday at 9 p.m. to Friday at 5:30 a.m.

The westbound Gardiner from Carlaw Avenue to the Humber River was closed overnight earlier this week.

Road crews will continue to work on two other projects, which are:

  • Deck replacement on the elevated portion of the Gardiner from Exhibition Place to Strachan Avenue. The work is expected to be completed by the end of 2016, but the city said the lanes will re-open June to August 2015 for the Pam Am/Parapan Am Games.
  • Structural rehabilitation of three bridges on the non-elevated section of the highway between the Humber River and Park Lawn Avenue. One eastbound lane will be closed, and work is expected to be completed by spring 2015.
