PENTICTON, B.C. – A 24-year-old woman from Leduc, Alberta, has died after a suspected drug overdose at a major music festival in Penticton.

The woman was taken to hospital from the Boonstock Music and Arts Festival.

Officers will not reveal the identity of the woman until family has been notified.

RCMP say two other people were in critical condition early Saturday morning because of drug overdoses, and at least a dozen others have been treated for the same problem.

Boonstock organizers did not immediately return requests for comment but said in a Facebook post they are deeply saddened and commend the work of security who assisted first responders.

Organizers offered their condolences to the family of the woman, and said it was tragic she died.

Police are assisting the BC Coroners Service in the investigation.

Thousands are expected to attend Boonstock, where dozens of artists are scheduled to play.

The event runs from Aug. 1 to 3.
