Joe Cressy makes bid for Toronto city council

Joe Cressy, who lost a recent federal byelection, wants to be a city councillor in Toronto.

Cressy, who ran for the federal NDP on June 30, filed his nomination papers to run as a candidate in the Trinity-Spadina ward on Wednesday morning.

The social activist ran as an NDP candidate to fill Olivia Chow’s seat in the House of Commons. He lost to former Trinity-Spadina councillor Adam Vaughan, who won the federal seat for the Liberals.

Cressy had also worked on Chow’s 2011 federal campaign.

His parents are former Toronto city councillors.

Twenty-four other candidates have already registered to run for Ward 20.
