Beer reward offered for pelting Ford with eggs ends in criminal charges

Apparently someone offered free beer for anyone who threw eggs or tomatoes at Mayor Rob Ford at Friday’s Ford Fest.

The offer was made on a “Toronto-based website,” said police in a news release.

Toronto man Dilaz Rajwani, 37, surrendered to police on Friday. Police charged him with counsel to an uncommitted indictable offence.

He is scheduled to appear in court in September.

Ford Fest was held at Thomson Memorial Park on Friday.

There were a few tense moments when demonstrators protested what they called Ford’s homophobia. They held up signs and called for the mayor’s departure from office.

A number of Ford’s supporters got into confrontations with the protesters and at one point, they grabbed the signs being held by the protesters, tore them up, and threw them on the ground, stamping on them in the process.

“Go home,” they yelled. “This is Ford Nation!”

One Ford supporter even grabbed a protester by the neck.
