WestJet plane lands safely in Toronto after reporting engine trouble

A WestJet plane landed safely at Toronto’s Pearson airport on Thursday morning on an unscheduled stop due to an engine problem, authorities said.

Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) spokesperson Scott Armstrong said WestJet Flight 585 was headed from Hamilton to Calgary.

Officials said the plane was met by emergency crews when it landed.

Peel police said the Boeing 737 had a problem with one of its engines but all of the 152 people on board are safe.

Police said mechanics are trying to determine whether the engine can be immediately repaired, or if the passengers must be put on another plane.

GTAA spokesperson Trish Krale confirmed the plane landed safely but referred further questions to WestJet, which did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
