Airshow plane lands on Yellowknife road after mechanical difficulties

By The Canadian Press

YELLOWKNIFE – No one was hurt when a plane scheduled to participate in a weekend air show was forced to land on a road in Yellowknife.

RCMP in the N.W.T. capital say the small yellow plane ran into mechanical difficulties while flying near the Kam Lake Industrial Park.

The pilot realized he wouldn’t be able to make it to the airport and ended up landing on Deh Cho Boulevard.

Police say there was some minor damage to the plane’s landing gear and it was taken to the airport for repairs.

It’s not the first time a plane has ended up on a Yellowknife street.

Two pilots were killed and several passengers were injured in 2011 when an bush plane crashed in an empty lot between two buildings.
