Sources say Rob Ford verbally abusive in rehab: Toronto Star reports

New details are emerging about Mayor Rob Ford’s stay in rehab

According to the Toronto Star, Ford pushed and scuffled with fellow rehab residents and was so verbally abusive that he was kicked out of his group therapy program.

The Star said the details come from people with knowledge of the mayor’s two month stay at GreenStone, including an unnamed employee and former patient. One source claims Ford broke things, got into fights with other residents.

“We were contacted by people who saw his comments last week on what a positive experience it was, and they felt it was necessary to tell us the other side of the story,” Star reporter Kevin Donovan, who co-authored the story, told Breakfast Television on Wednesday morning.

“I think really that’s what all of us are trying to do with this Mayor Ford story, [to] tell both sides of it.”

According to the Star’s sources, Ford behaved as if he was exempt from the rules and “had the run of the place.”

The report said management was concerned Ford continued to use drugs or alcohol during his time in rehab. The Star was unable to determine if Ford abused any substances during his two month stint.

It added that Ford preferred to be alone, spending evenings watching television in his private cottage and receiving a personal trainer to workout with so as to avoid exercising with other residents.

Police were called at least once to deal with an incident at GreeneStone during Ford’s time. It’s not known if the police visit was related to Ford.

Ford did not respond to a detailed letter from the Toronto Star requesting comment.
