Water main break closes Etobicoke street, floods homes

Crews closed part of an Etobicoke street after a water main break on Monday morning.

Evans Avenue was closed around 2:30 a.m. from about 463 Evans Ave. to west of Kipling Avenue.

By Monday at 1:30 p.m. one lane was open in each direction while crews worked to repair the break.

The city estimated repairs would be completed by early evening.

Water has also flowed into the basements of up to three homes in the area and water to those homes has been shut off.

The city performed some minor patch work to the sewer system just last week, but it’s not clear if the damage is related to that.
