Baby found in Heathrow Park storm drain was stillborn, or died shortly after birth

Police tell CityNews partial human remains that were found in a storm drain Monday at a North York Park likely belonged to a stillborn baby or a baby that died shortly after birth.

The baby’s gender has not been determined and results of an autopsy are still pending.

Police are appealing to the public to come forward with information about a woman who was recently in the late stages of a pregnancy or gave birth, but there’s no sign of a baby.

The discovery was made shortly before 9 a.m. on Monday at Heathrow Park in the Jane Street and Wilson Avenue area by a city employee who was clearing the drain.

Officials said the last time the drain was cleaned was two weeks ago.

Homicide police were dispatched and the coroner was called to the scene.
