SIU investigating after crash at Etobicoke school

The province’s police watchdog is investigating the circumstances surrounding a single-vehicle crash at an Etobicoke school that injured a teenage passenger on Thursday evening.

At 8:15 p.m., a Toronto police officer, who was parked in a cruiser on John Garland Boulevard at Jamestown Crescent, saw an SUV driving the wrong way on Jamestown and a short time later found the Chevrolet Equinox had crashed into St. Dorothy Catholic School.

An 18-year-old male passenger suffered serious injuries and was taken to Sunnybrook hospital. He remains in hospital in critical condition.

The SIU, which investigates cases where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault involving police, has assigned four investigators and two forensic investigators to probe the circumstances of this incident.

No further details were immediately available.
