8 charged in Toronto human trafficking case

Eight people face a total of 44 charges in a human trafficking investigation involving a prominent Toronto gang.

The investigation, known as Project Dove, found that there were fewer than 10 victims between the ages of 14 and 17.

Insp. Joanna Beaven said Friday police believe there may be more out there.

“Two of the accused parties are females. Three of the accused are young offenders. Several of the offenders are also known members of the local street gang The Galloway Boys.”

The suspects were picked up Thursday and four others are being sought.

Beaven also said this kind of activity is not unusual with street gangs.

“Prostitution is often found, if not always found. It’s as lucrative as drugs and guns and sometimes it goes undetected,” she added.

She said some of the victims have already been reunited with family.
