Brampton couple collects $50M Lotto Max after losing winning ticket

Six months after losing a winning Lotto Max ticket, a Brampton couple have claimed their $50 million prize.

Abiola Nosiru said her husband Hakeem checked the ticket at the store the day after the Jan. 17 draw.

“I waited in line for the self-checker and when I scanned my ticket, I thought I won $50,004,” said Hakeem. “I ran up and down the aisles of the store crying with excitement. Everyone was congratulating me and patting me on the back.”

The next day Nosiru put the ticket, along with the validation slip and a photocopy of the ticket in her purse and headed to church.

“My grandchildren were playing in my purse and I went to church and it slipped out from my purse,” she explained. “I couldn’t sleep for days, I couldn’t eat. I was devastated.”

The OLG said the prize claim was put on hold when they were informed about the lost ticket.

After searching for months, the couple said on April Fool’s Day they received a phone call from a member of the church saying she had found the ticket.

“She said April Fools and we got (the ticket),” said Nosiru.

The couple said the whole experience has been an exciting and emotional journey.

With the winnings the couple say they plan on seeing the seven wonders of the world as well as taking care of their four children and five grandchildren.
