Lane closures start on Lake Shore for road work

Drivers looking for alternate routes to avoid the Gardiner Expressway construction are about to take another hit as intermittent lane closures on Lake Shore Boulevard started on Wednesday.

The closures are due to crews resurfacing the road in preparation for the 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games and are expected to last for eight weeks. Click here for a map of road closures.

The westbound lanes of Lake Shore Boulevard will experience intermittent closures from Yonge Street to west of Rees Street, Bathurst Street to British Columbia Road and from Parkside Drive to Windermere.

The city said the closures will run from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with most of the work talking place during non-rush hour periods. Some weekend and evening work will will also be needed to accelerate the completion of the project.

The section between British Columbia Road and Lower Spadina Avenue will experience intermittent eastbound lane closures from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Officials say the roadwork was planned prior to the scheduling of the Gardiner construction and is expected to be completed in mid July, before the beginning of overnight closures for road resurfacing on lake shore boulevard.
