More food trucks now allowed on Toronto streets

Gourmet grilled cheese and cupcake vendors will have an easier time vying for Torontonians’ prized lunch money now that more food trucks are allowed curbside.

As of Thursday, up to 125 food trucks, including the existing 27, can serve from any pay-and-display parking spot in Toronto for three hours a day.

According to the new regulations passed by city council in April, they can’t park within 50 metres of a bricks-and-mortar restaurant.

There are about 100 food trucks operating in the city, selling everything from hot dogs to lobster rolls.

The program will be reviewed in a year’s time.
