A Toronto man who was struck by a vehicle that failed to remain at the scene near Kensington Market on Saturday has died, police confirm.
Jay McGinn, 28, was getting into a cab when he was struck. He was rushed to hospital in critical condition and died in hospital on Thursday, Traffic Services said in a release.
Oshawa woman Karen Fyfe, 31, was charged with failing to stop causing bodily harm.
Those charges will likely be upgraded.
Fyfe was released on $15,000 bail on Wednesday. She must follow a 6 p.m. curfew and is prohibited from driving, drinking or consuming drugs. She must also attend drug and alcohol counselling.
Fyfe’s arrest happened on Sunday evening, just hours after McGinn’s mother, Lisa Falls, made an impassioned plea outside St. Michael’s Hospital for the driver to surrender.
Friends of the McGinn’s also took to social media to help search for the driver and the car using the hashtag #justiceforjay.
Fyfe is scheduled to return to court on June 16.
