Oshawa woman charged in Kensington Market hit-and-run granted bail

An Oshawa woman, who’s accused of a hit-and-run in the Kensington Market area on Saturday that left a Toronto man in a coma, has been granted $15,000 bail.

Jay McGinn, 28, was getting into a cab just before 3 a.m. Saturday on Dundas Street West and Augusta Avenue, west of Spadina, when he was hit by a car.

Police charged Karen Fyfe, 31, with failing to stop causing bodily harm. Fyfe’s father put up the bail money.

The bail hearing was held on Wednesday. The conditions of bail are that Fyfe has a 6 p.m. curfew and she is not go drive, drink or consume drugs. She must also attend drug and alcohol counselling.

Fyfe’s arrest happened on Sunday evening, just hours after McGinn’s mother Lisa Falls made an impassioned plea outside St. Michael’s Hospital for the driver to surrender.

Friends of the McGinn’s also took to social media to help search for the driver and the car using the hashtag #justiceforjay.

Fyfe is scheduled to return to court on June 16.
