Pregnant women face increased risk of car crashes: study

University of Toronto researchers have found pregnant woman face a 42 per cent higher chance of being in a serious car crash as compared to when they aren’t pregnant.

Study author Dr. Donald Redelmeier says the fatigue, nausea, distraction, and sleep disruption often associated with pregnancy can lead to the elevated risk.

He and his co-authors say pregnant women do not need to stop driving, but they should be aware of the risks and drive more cautiously.
