Edmonton police officer hurt, suspect killed in shootout while serving warrant

By The Canadian Press

EDMONTON – A suspect has been killed and a police officer has been hurt during an exchange of gunfire in southwest Edmonton.

Edmonton police say officers were executing a warrant when gun fire broke out Sunday evening.

The suspect was killed in the exchange while paramedics took one officer to hospital with what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team, which investigates cases involving police that end in death or injury, is taking over the investigation.

It’s the second shooting in Alberta where police officers have been hurt in recent days.

A man was killed and three RCMP officers were hurt during a gun fight in downtown St. Paul on Friday evening.

Two of the officers were treated and released while the third needed to be airlifted to Edmonton for treatment of leg injuries she suffered when her police truck was rammed.
