Raps, Casey officially agree to 3-year deal

The Toronto Raptors are rewarding coach Dwane Casey for their record-breaking season with a new three-year contract.

The announcement comes two days after the Raptors lost Game 7 to the Brooklyn Nets in the team’s first playoff appearance in six seasons.

The 57-year-old Casey led a young Raptors team to a franchise-record 48 wins and the Atlantic Division title in his third season on the job.

His job status was uncertain when the season began after the Raptors hired Masai Ujiri as general manager.

But under Casey’s steady guidance and defence-first approach, the Raptors thrived after a seven-player deal in December to reach unprecedented heights.

The Raptors took the vastly experienced Nets to seven games in the opening round of the playoffs, losing Game 7 by just a point.
