Montreal police horse is retrieved after running free through city

By The Canadian Press

MONTREAL – A police horse was briefly on the loose in Montreal Saturday afternoon after it escaped from its handler and began galloping through the city streets.

Const. Danny Richer says it happened when an officer was attempting to mount the horse and fell.

He says the horse took off from the west-end borough of Notre-Dame-de-Grace and was found about 30 minutes later.

He says no injuries were reported.

Montreal police have a cavalry of 11 horses, according to the force’s website.

They are often used to patrol parks and are also used to help with crowd control at parades and protests.
