Toronto police officer rides off into the sunset

After 36 years with the force, Sgt. Jim Patterson will take his last ride with the Toronto Police mounted unit on Wednesday.

Patterson’s final ride will take him from the unit’s headquarters at the Exhibition Place Horse Palace to the officer’s home in Pickering.

He will be joined on the all-day trip by three of his favourite horses and 20 human colleagues.

The journey begins at 8:30 a.m. and stops off at Kingston Road and Blantyre Avenue at 11:30 a.m. and then Guildwood GO station at 2:30 p.m. before ending in Pickering at 5 p.m.

In 2013, Patterson rode in U.S. President Barack Obama’s second inauguration ceremony atop steed Honest Ed.
