A man has died after being shot multiple times in a public area in Vaughan, police tell CityNews.
After reports of gunfire, the victim was found in the parking lot of a café shortly after 2 p.m. on Thursday on Regina Road, near Highway 7 and Martin Grove Road, York regional police said.
“I don’t know where the shooting actually occurred,” Const. Andy Pattenden said. “When our officers arrived the male was located in a parking lot outside the café.”
Investigators are looking for a grey car that was seen fleeing the scene and say at least one male suspect is believed to be behind the shooting. Police are hopeful they can garner clues from surveillance videos and have been conducting checkpoints in the area.
The victim, believed to be in his late 40s or 50s, won’t be identified until his family has been notified.
Witnesses are being sought, police say.
