New Toronto waterfront street name to be selected by public

Waterfront Toronto is inviting everyone to vote for a name for a new waterfront street in the Bayside Toronto development in East Bayfront.

Voting is open now through to May 1.

The names are:

  • Aquaview Crescent
  • Azure Drive
  • Edgewater Drive
  • Kanadario Way (from the Iroquois word meaning “sparkling” or “beautiful” water)
  • Merchants’ Wharf (for the wharf which was once located in this area)
  • Water Street
  • Wendat Way (refrences the Wendat people, also called Huron)

Waterfront Toronto will announce the winning name on May 5.

The new waterfront street will be part of a four-hectare neighbourhood of homes, offices and shops near Parliament Street and will connect to Queens Quay Boulevard.

The name will require final approval from the East York Community Council in June, the organization’s communications manager Samantha Gileno said.

The selection committee, made up of members of the public, Waterfront Toronto and Coun. Pam McConnell, selected seven names from a list of almost 700 suggestions it received.

You can vote for a name on the Waterfront Toronto website.
