Gas prices in GTA near record high

The price of gas hit close to a record high in the Greater Toronto Area on Wednesday.

Gas prices rose by 1.1 cents overnight to an average price of 140.0 cents/litre at most GTA stations.

The price hasn’t been that high since May 2011 when it topped out at 141 cents/litre.

At the time, people started conserving gas, while some cancelled summer driving trips.

There are reports that the price could even go higher, if the U.S. Department of Energy report, set to be released on Wednesday, indicates a shortage of gasoline.
