Religious image appears at Mississauga Hindu temple, worshippers say

From the outside, the Sai Dham Canada Temple in Mississauga looks like a fairly nondescript bungalow. But inside, worshippers believe something truly miraculous has taken place.

Some have been reduced to tears after saying the image of Shirdi Sai Baba, a late 19th century spiritual leader from India, suddenly appeared on the Hindu temple’s wall on April 12.

Last Saturday, they spotted a second image of Baba on a different wall.

Subra Mukherejee, the temple’s co-founder, said she was drawing the curtains after a prayer session when other worshippers began hollering with excitement.

“They yelled at me, ‘Baba is here don’t close (the curtains), Baba is here!” said Mukherejee. “I was like, ‘What are they talking about?’ And when I saw I just sat down and started crying because it was so overwhelming.”

One woman drove from Ottawa in the middle of the night to see the image for herself.

“As soon as I walked in I could see it and I think it’s a confirmation of our devotion,” said Pravalika Akula. “This image shows that he is here, listening to us…And I think we are blessed to experience this.”

The worshippers say they understand there will be skeptics, but say they are guided by their faith.

“It’s really amazing that, even in this day and age, we see such grace of God appear right in front of you when you least suspect it,” said Vishwa Shukla, 17.

Temple workers say they’ve been receiving calls around the clock from people who want to visit the temple and see the images first hand.
