The power is back on after a significant power outage hit the city’s west-end Tuesday evening.

Thousands were plunged into darkness around 9 p.m. from as far north as Highway 401, south to the Lakeshore and from Yonge Street west to Mississauga. Sections of North York were also without power.

Many took to Twitter to report outages in areas including midtown, the Annex, Yorkville, the Junction and Parkdale.

The outage also caused the TTC to suspend subway service between Jane and St George stations due to signal problems as a result of hydro issues. Service has since resumed.

Toronto Hydro said the problem was due to a Hydro One transmission issue. The exact cause of the outage is currently under investigation.
