Fire gutted a storage barn in Whitchurch-Stouffville early Sunday morning.

The blaze started before 6:30 a.m. in a large shed on Aurora Road, east of McCowan. It contained equipment for a company named Suburban Landscaping.

York Regional Police said the barn was fully engulfed, and the property owner was taken to hospital for smoke inhalation.

Crews were allowing the fire to extinguish itself in a controlled burn.
