Toronto Zoo wants help naming new baby gorilla

The Toronto Zoo has welcomed a new baby gorilla to the family – and they want you to help name her.

Ngozi, a member of the zoo’s Western Lowland Gorilla Troop, gave birth on Jan. 10.

The newborn was welcomed by father Charles and three other youngsters – Johari (female, born 2001), Sadiki (male, born 2005), Nassir (male, born 2009) – as well as adult gorilla Josephine.

After three months spent cuddling with mom, it’s time for a name.

Suggestions can be made online and names can be submitted until noon on April 22.

There are a few rules: the name should be suitable for a female, the zoo prefers African names, and the name must start with the letter “N.” At the Toronto Zoo, baby gorillas are named with the first initial from the mother’s name (in this case Ngozi).
