Liberia: Popular radio talk show host charged with terrorism for threatening president’s son

By The Associated Press

MONROVIA, Liberia – The lawyer for a Liberian radio talk show host says his client has been arrested and charged with terrorism after challenging the president’s son to a fight on the air.

Sayma Syrenius Cephus said Sunday that Henry Costa, host of The Costa Show on Hott FM, would appear in court Monday after being arrested Friday and charged with issuing a “terroristic threat” and other offences.

Deputy Information Minister Isaac Jackson said Fumba Sirleaf, son of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and director of the National Security Agency, filed a complaint alleging Costa challenged him to a fight during his show on Feb. 26.

Cephus said the case was evidence that the court system was biased in favour of the president’s family, though Jackson warned against “politicizing the case.”
