Olivia Chow set to enter Toronto’s mayoral race: report

Toronto’s mayoral race is about to get more crowded.

MP Olivia Chow, the major left-of-centre contender, is reportedly set to file her nomination papers the week of March 17.

Many have been expecting Chow to enter the race — several opinion polls over the past year have had her as the front-runner.

The Trinity-Spadina MP would be the latest major candidate to take a run at Mayor Rob Ford’s job. Former Ontario Progressive Conservative leader John Tory, Coun. Karen Stintz and ex-councillor David Soknacki have already launched campaigns.

The Toronto Star quotes a campaign source as saying that Chow has been preparing for a year and will roll out an ambitious platform.

CORRECTION: An earlier report incorrectly stated that Soknacki is currently a councillor.
