One of Toronto’s first black hair salons still going strong after 52 years

As part of our ongoing series honouring Black History Month, Tammie Sutherland introduces us to one of Toronto’s first black hair salons. After 52 years, Kameel Azan’s salon is still going strong. Azan first opened on Spadina just north of Queen, but now welcomes clients at his Davenport and Avenue location. The Jamaican-born stylist practiced on the likes of Dinah Washington and Sarah Vaughan before setting up a shop of his own right here in Toronto.
