As part of our ongoing series honouring Black History Month, Tammie Sutherland introduces us to one of Toronto’s first black hair salons. After 52 years, Kameel Azan’s salon is still going strong. Azan first opened on Spadina just north of Queen, but now welcomes clients at his Davenport and Avenue location. The Jamaican-born stylist practiced on the likes of Dinah Washington and Sarah Vaughan before setting up a shop of his own right here in Toronto.

Toronto mayoral candidate Doug Ford spoke to the media at Mount Sinai Hospital where his brother Mayor Rob Ford is undergoing chemotherapy. Doug Ford will take part in Tuesday’s debate hosted by the York South-Weston community associations.
