Toronto Police warn public after rash of break-ins during funerals

Toronto police say thieves are scanning newspaper and online obituaries and breaking into homes while grieving friends and family members are attending funerals.

The break-ins have taken place over the past few weeks throughout the city, with the three most recent occurring in North York last week.

“All (victims) had been attending the funeral of a close family member at the time of the break-and-enter and a funeral notification had been published in a newspaper or online,” police said in a release.

Police are advising the public to lock all door and windows, and to have a friend or neighbour watch your home when attending a funeral.
