Snowfall warning issued for parts of southern Ontario

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for parts of southern Ontario, including Oakville, Burlington, Hamilton and Niagara.

According to the weather agency, significant snowfall — between 15 to 20 centimetres — is likely in those areas starting Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning.

Although Toronto is not in the warning list, the forecast calls for 10 to 15 centimetres of snow for the city.

A special weather statement is in effect for the GTA, including Toronto, due to an impending snowfall.

CityNews meteorologist Natasha Ramsahai said Toronto will receive between two to five centimetres of snow by the morning commute.

Commuters should allow some extra time due to accumulating snow and reduced visibility in falling snow. Ramsahai said blowing snow will reduce visibility due to wind gusts of 40-50 km/h.

Air travellers who have flights to the U.S. Northeast are being advised to check their flight status before heading to the airport as the system could slow airport operations. Airports in New York are still recovering from a system that dumped 20 centimetres of snow on Monday.
