Peel Region’s homicide unit is now on the case of a Mississauga man who went missing last month.
Ernest Guinto, 36, was last seen at Square One Shopping Centre, near Hurontario Street and Rathburn Road West, on Dec. 29, 2013.
Detectives have learned Guinto may have been trying to avoid people with ties to crime and said it’s possible foul play was involved in his disappearance.
“Investigators remain hopeful that he may have gone into hiding, though that possibility becomes less likely as time passes,” police said in a statement.
“It’s known that he was very close to members of his immediate family and the fact that he hasn’t contacted them to alleviate their concern is extremely unusual.”
Guinto is Asian, five-foot-seven and 170 pounds, with a heavy build, long black hair shaved at the sides and brown eyes. He was wearing a red hoodie, dark jogging pants and light-brown Timberland boots when he went missing.
