Durham cops face internal review for ‘Central Cells’ YouTube video

Durham’s police chief has launched an internal review after a video they say depicting three disgruntled cops aired on YouTube.

The fake movie trailer for Central Cells shows three officers on “a quest for freedom” from their cellblock duties.

At the end of the video, the credits read “a film by Rob Ford.” The film features a shot of the Toronto mayor making his infamous drunk driving gesture at city hall and then another shot of the cops making a similar gesture.

Chief Mike Ewles said he was made aware of the video, which was posted on Wednesday, and immediately called for the force’s professional standards unit to investigate Mike Glennie, Harold Tasson and Paul Grigoriou. Officials from the force weren’t immediately available for comment.

“The video depicts three DRPS employees in uniform, inside DRPS facilities, using DRPS-issued equipment. Two of the employees are police officers while the third is a Special Constable (civilian),” police said in a release.

Ewles said he was disappointed on several levels.

“Our Courts Branch plays an incredibly important role in our business and I want to assure members of the community that we take this important function very seriously,” he said. “The safe and secure handling of people in our holding cells is a top priority for this police service. We invest heavily in training and continually review safety procedures to ensure this vitally important area is managed properly.”

The video has since been removed from YouTube.
