A worker has died after becoming trapped during a partial collapse at a construction site at the Sheridan Centre shopping mall in Mississauga, Peel police confirm.
Emergency crews rushed to the mall, at 2225 Erin Mills Parkway, and found the 33-year-old man of Kitchener trapped under a collapsed girder at a construction site where a Target Canada store is being built. A rescue effort ensued but the victim was later declared dead at the scene.
Target Canada spokeswoman Lisa Gibson told CityNews in an email that the company is “deeply shocked and saddened” by the accident.
“We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends for their loss,” she said. “We are currently investigating the matter and have no further details to share at this time.”
The cause of the collapse has not yet been determined, and the victim’s name hasn’t been disclosed.
