Planes now landing at Pearson after ground stop

Planes are now landing at Pearson International Airport after extreme cold prevented arrivals on Tuesday morning.
The extreme cold caused equipment to freeze and safety issues for employees, Pearson tweeted. A ground stop — where flights are not able to land — was in effect until just after 10 a.m.

WestJet had earlier reported that flights were not able to land at Pearson until at least 9 a.m.
In a statement on its website, WestJet said that flights are not permitted to land and there is a “backlog of aircraft on the ground at the airport waiting for a gate to become available to offload guests.”
WestJet said that passengers would be allowed to deplane as soon as possible, but “baggage will have to remain on board some flights until sometime Tuesday.”
Meanwhile, Peel police had to respond to a call at the Pearson to handle a group of irate passengers waiting for their bags but no arrests were made.
