680News rolls out significant update to mobile app

We have some exciting news to share: version 2.0 of the 680News mobile app for iOS and Android devices is now live.

The 680News app has been improved with a number of features and designed to work just like the radio station. Check multiple times over the course of the day to quickly get everything you need to know: the very latest news, traffic, weather, business updates and sports scores. We’ve also added extra features like video clips, live streaming video of breaking-news events, photo galleries and on-demand audio reports.

“The audience is busy. They’re on the go. They’re managing work and their kids and activities,” Richard Bloom, director of Digital News for City and Rogers Radio, said.

“Everything you get from 680News on-air you we’ve now put in the palm of your hand,” Bloom said.

Of course, you can also listen to a live stream of the radio station 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The stream will stay live while doing other things within the app or if you launch other apps.

Traffic reports are updated every 10 minutes, business reports around the clock and the very latest weather forecast and current temperature are always front and centre.

Real-time traffic images are on the app, displaying up-to-the-minute shots from  Ministry of Transportation and City of Toronto cameras criss-crossing the city from the DVP to the Gardiner to the QEW and 401.

Also on the app: the ability to quickly send news tips directly into the 680News newsroom. Tips can be sent in multiple formats – text, photo and video.

What’s more, all content can be shared directly from the app via email, Facebook and Twitter.

“This may be version 2.0 but we’re going to keep improving it in the coming weeks and months,” Bloom added. “So, if you’ve got a comment or recommendation on how we can make it better, click the contact us link in the app and let us know.”

The updated app is available on both iOs and Android. It’s available in the Apple iTunes app store and the Google Play store. If you have the earlier version of the app, just click “update.”
