Automated passport kiosks installed at Pearson

Automated passport kiosks were up and running at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport on Wednesday and it’s hoped they will reduce wait time for passengers travelling to the United States.
Users will scan their passport, have their picture taken and answer a series of questions before proceeding to a U.S. customs agent.

The kiosks are already in use at several U.S. airports and in Montreal and Vancouver. According to the Chicago Sun Times, they’ve already made a big impact at O’Hare International Airport. During the first 40 days of use, the kiosks cut 16 minutes off the average wait time during peak travel hours.
Passengers must hold either a Canadian or U.S. passport to use the Automated Passport Control (APC) kiosks, the Greater Toronto Airport Authority said Wednesday. If passengers have or require a Visa or work permit to enter the U.S., they cannot use the APC system.
Unlike the NEXUS system, there is no fee to use the kiosks.
There are 40 kiosks at Pearson, located in Terminal 1 and Terminal 3.
