The RCMP have arrested a Canadian citizen on charges of trying to send classified information to China

The RCMP said the suspect was allegedly attempting to send classified information about Canada’s shipbuilding strategy to China.

The suspect was arrested Saturday in Burlington, Ont., and appeared in court Sunday. He’ll be held in custody until a bail hearing on Wednesday.

The RCMP believe there is no great damage to Canada’s security.

53-year-old Qing Quentin Huang has been charged with communicating with a foreign entity under the Security of Information Act.

The investigation was conducted by an Integrated National Security Enforcement Team, led by the RCMP. The team was also comprised of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA), and other law enforcement and national security partners at the federal, provincial, municipal levels.
