Suspect wanted in Project Quell gangs sweep arrested

A 21-year-old man — wanted in a Toronto police guns-and-gangs sweep — was arrested Friday, police say.

The Toronto man was wanted in relation to Project Quell, which netted more than 40 arrests and a slew of charges in early October that police said made a serious dent to gang activity in Toronto.

Sedoncik Atkins faces 13 charges, including trafficking marijuana, threatening death and nine counts of conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.

Alleged members of the Galloway Boys and Orton Park gang — 41 in total — were charged with 400 offences in Project Quell and Project Brazen.

Members of the gangs have reportedly been involved in a violent turf war over drugs.

Investigators have linked that gang war to several shootings and the mistaken-identity murder of D’Mitre Barnaby in December 2011 — although they have yet to make an arrest in his murder.
