TORONTO – Two women were sent to hospital Tuesday night after being struck by a vehicle in the Avenue Road and Lawrence Avenue West area.
The 46-year-old driver of the vehicle was also taken to hospital with unknown injuries.
Toronto police said a 66-year-old woman and 46-year-old woman — teachers at Allenby Junior Public School — were attempting to cross to the east side of Avenue Road using the south crosswalk shortly before 4:30 p.m.
According to police, a vehicle travelling westbound on Glengrove Avenue was turning left to southbound Avenue Road when the pedestrians were struck by the vehicle.
The 66-year-old woman was dragged by the vehicle as it continued to make the left turn, sustaining life-threatening injuries, police said. The 46-year-old woman sustained non-life threatening injuries.
The vehicle continued southbound on Avenue Road and veered into the northbound lanes, where it was struck by a northbound pick-up.
A social worker will be at Allenby Junior Public School Wednesday to help students and staff cope with the incident.
