2 men wanted in Project Quell gangs sweep arrested

TORONTO – Two Toronto men — wanted in a Toronto police guns-and-gangs sweep — were arrested Monday, police say.

The men are among a group of eight alleged members of the Galloway Boys who were wanted in relation to Project Quell, which netted more than 40 arrests and a slew of charges that police said made a serious dent to gang activity in Toronto.

Carl Sangs, 27, faces 85 charges, including 82 counts of trafficking cocaine, two counts of trafficking marijuana and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.

Tyrrell Turner, 21, was arrested and charged with two counts of trafficking cocaine, trafficking marijuana and two counts of participation in a criminal organization.

Alleged members of the Galloway Boys and Orton Park gang — 41 in total — were charged with 400 offences in Project Quell and Project Brazen.

Members of the gangs have reportedly been involved in a violent turf war over drugs.

Investigators have linked that gang war to several shootings and the mistaken-identity murder of D’Mitre Barnaby in December 2011 — although they have yet to make an arrest in his murder.

The six people still at large are:

  • Sedonick Atkins, 21
  • Bismark Barrett, 22
  • Devon Brumble, 20
  • Micheil Davy, 23
  • Ernesto Gayle, 36
  • Orane West, 30
