Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is probing the circumstances surrounding a police-involved shooting in Toronto Saturday morning.
Preliminary information from the SIU indicates that police responded to a call shortly after 7:30 a.m. on Epping Street for a report of a male breaking into cars.
Witnesses tell 680News they heard yelling then gunshots.
There was an interaction between the man and police, and the man sustained a gunshot wound, the SIU wrote in a release.
The 28-year-old male was taken to hospital and remains in stable condition, according to EMS.
Neighbours say the area has seen of a number of break-ins recently.
The SIU has assigned four investigators and two forensic investigators to probe the circumstances of this incident.
The Special Investigations Unit investigates when police officers are involved in incidents where someone has been seriously injured, dies or alleges sexual assault to determine whether a criminal offence took place.
