Toyota is recalling around 615,000 Sienna vans in the United States and 56,000 in Canada due to an issue with the shift locking device.
The recalls affect the model years 2004 through to and including 2009, with the exemption of 2006 models.
Toyota said if the vehicle’s shift locking device is damaged, it can shift out of park by itself and take off.
There have been 21 reports of accidents — three of which took place in Canada — and two injuries related to the problem.
Anyone who has questions about the recall is being told to phone their dealership. Dealers said they will replace the shift locking device for free.
