Soon-to-open Ripley’s Aquarium offers sneak peek

The soon-to-open Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada – located right beside Rogers Centre and CN Tower — is offering a first glimpse into its facility Thursday, live streaming underwater action ahead of the venue’s opening later this month.

A live stream published on thestar.com and embedded below showcases fish feedings, interviews with fish-keepers (also known as aquarists), and give a glimpse into the “dangerous lagoon.”

The dangerous lagoon is filled with sharks – including the Sand Tiger, Sandbar and Reef sharks – as well as other predators such as saw-wielding sawfish, barracudas, moray eels, spadefish and tarpon.

The Toronto Star is hosting the live stream until 10 p.m. Thursday.

The 135,000 square foot attraction at the foot of the CN Tower is scheduled to open later this month, but Ripley’s has not announced an exact date. On Thursday, a message on the aquarium’s official Twitter page said they were just putting on the “finishing touches.”

It has unveiled its “pre-opening” pricing: $29.98 for an adult; $19.98 for children aged 4-13 and seniors.

The aquarium will be one of the largest in North America, housing more than 13,500 sea and freshwater creatures in 5.7-million litres of water.

It is expected to draw nearly two million visitors each year.
