Etobicoke mom accused of attempted murder denied bail

A judge has denied bail for an Etobicoke woman accused of trying to murder her 11-year-old son who remains in hospital fighting for his life.

The judge agreed Wednesday afternoon with the Crown that the woman should be detained because she’s a danger to the public. She cannot have any contact with her children.

Neither the victim nor the woman can be identified to protect the boy. There is a publication ban on the details of the allegations against the woman.

Around 1 a.m. Friday, officers were called to the 12th floor of a building on Eva Road, near Bloor Street West and Highway 427, by people who had heard terrified screams coming from the apartment.

Police found the boy with severe head injuries, and he was taken to hospital where he remains on a ventilator.

Crown lawyer Scott Patterson, opposed her release, saying she is a danger to the public. Defence lawyer Gordie Goldman proposed two sureties.

The woman is also charged with failing to provide the necessities of life.

Her next court date was slated for Sept. 25.
