The newly renovated Richtree restaurant set to open at the Eaton Centre violated labour laws when it laid off their employees and later hired new non-unionized ones, says union.
The Toronto Star has reported Unite Here Local 75, the union representing employees is planning legal action.
The upscale fast food restaurant said it laid off its old staff fair and square offering them severance packages that all employees accepted.
Unite Here Local 75 told The Star they never agreed to them and workers weren’t given much choice.
Laid off employees plan to demonstrate infront of the Richtree when it reopens on Sept. 9 at the Eaton Centre.
