“Sam the Record Man” sign won’t hang from Ryerson University

Don’t expect to see the famous “Sam the Record Man” sign anytime soon.

Although Ryerson University purchased it in a deal to buy the land where the store once stood, it says the price to repair the sign and hang it, is too high.

Now, the Toronto Star reports, the City has let the school off the hook and the school won’t have to repair the sign.

Instead, Ryerson said it will provide a “commemorative insert” on the Yonge Street sidewalk where the store once was, while the sign remains in storage.

The change to the original contract between Ryerson and the City will have to be approved by council, with a public meeting for your input set for Sept. 10.
