Fire guts house under construction in Scarborough

TORONTO – Dozens of firefighters battled a fire that ripped through a home under construction in Scarborough Thursday.

The fire broke out around 12:20 p.m. near McCowan Road and Steeles Avenue, requiring 12 fire trucks.

At its peak, 45 firefighters were required to fight the flames, Toronto Fire Capt. Mike Strapko told CityNews.

No one was injured.

It is not yet known how the fire began but investigators are probing welding as a possible cause.

The cost of the damage is not yet known.
